ANN: Angel's Vox 1.3 Is Released (February 5, 2010)

You are welcome to discuss here the version 1.3 of our audiobook player for Windows.

The main changes (comparing to the version 1.2) are:

  • Changed an icon of the Sleep Timer button.
  • Fixed the problem with skinned scroll bars when in the always-on-top mode.
  • Minimizing to tray when the Shift key is hold down.
  • Skinned dialogs for opening files were replaced by the standard system dialogs.
  • Added an optional support of multimedia keys (see the dialog Settings).
  • Added an option for an exact seeking and length detection.
  • Added an option “Automatically create a record in the Library on calling the Play File(s)/Directory command”. It is enabled by default.

Greetings and Congrats for you innovative Angel's Vox.

Imperious Wishing list :-)

- Pitch control. Absolutely necessary.
- Values of just 1.50 speedup/brake are more reasonable. Same slider spread for optimum control.

Thanks very much. Great job, again.

Hello Walter. Thanks a lot for your interest and suggestions regarding Angel's Vox!

The code for changing the pitch only and for changing the speed w/o affecting the pitch is almost ready, but we're thinking about the user interface problem: how to add new features and keep the main control bar easy-to-use.

And are you suggesting to reduce gradations of the speed slider?

Greetings Valerian.

My suggestion was directed to "time stretching" : I believe that the current stretching of plus or minus 300 percent could be a tad excessive. A spread of 150 percent is more realistic. I doubt people would use Angel's Vox for extreme theatrical effect. For ebook reading or language learning you would not need more then 70/80 percent with some pitch modification. The slider size - unchanged - would permit a fine tune of time stretch.

Thanks for answering Valerian.
Have a nice day.

One more little question, Walter: do you use Angel's Vox for listening to audio books? What if we will simply replace the speeding-up with changing the pitch by the speeding-up w/o changing the pitch (key)? Or you need the separate pitch controlling for some other case?

Slowing down reading will be the most used function.
In the case of male reader voice, that will almost always require an ajustment of pitch, so pitch control will necessarily complement time stretching.

Walter, I agree with your pitch changing proposal and arguments, so please expect this feature in one of the nearest versions (1.4 or 1.5).

A general pitch change, with some kind of graphics equaliser would help, the Ebook I am listening to right now is a bit muffled, but upping the pitch would help a bit - a bit more control would be even better.

Bryan, I put you wish regarding the EQ in the list, but I'm afraid that it will be possible only in 2.X versions.
